Testing Information

and Resources

Before COVID, many four year colleges and universities required applicants to submit standardized test scores as part of the admissions process.  Four year schools typically used the ACT or SAT as evaluating tools.  Now, many are waiving the ACT or SAT requirement and are relying more on GPA and the types of courses that a student has taken in high school to make an admission's determination.  Please check with the school you are interested in attending to see if they are waiving the ACT or SAT requirement.

Two year colleges in Minnesota have prospective students take the ACCUPLACER. The purpose of this test is for proper course placement, not admissions.

Juniors at MCC will take part in a multi-week preparation for the ACT test that is held in the spring of the year.  The test will take place at the MCC high school gym from 8:30a-1:30p on April 7th, 2026.

Juniors will also have the opportunity to take the ASVAB on TBD.  This assessment is used by many schools in Minnesota as part of their career and college readiness initiatives.  After the tests are scored, students will review their results and then take part in a career interest and exploration activity.  The ASVAB is also utilized by the military for admittance into the various branches and for determining career options within the armed forces.

ACCUPLACER

General Information

The ACCUPLACER is an untimed test that is used by two year colleges to assess a student's readiness to take certain courses (e.g. College Algebra or Composition).  Students who do not meet the testing benchmarks will be required to take remedial or skill-building courses.

Students who will be taking a college in the school (CIS) course or an online college course will be required to take the ACCUPLACER as part of the admissions/application process.  CIS and online students will have the opportunity to take this assessment at MCC.
